Prostate Massage Technique
Prostate massage technique is a term used to describe the method used to massage or stimulate the prostate gland for medical purposes. In case, the prostate massage technique is for sexual purposes, it is called prostate milking. The two terms can be used interchangeably, although "massage" is used when the purpose is relief from symptoms of chronic prostatitis, and "milking" is used if the purpose is the reduction of sexual activity through removal of prostatic fluid.
The prostate is a walnut-sized gland, located adjacent to the rectum and it produces and stores the seminal fluids which are ejaculated during orgasm.
Often the prostate massage technique is carried out for the treatment of chronic prostatitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). But it is strongly recommended against for patients with acute prostatitis since the prostate massage technique could cause spread of infection to other parts of the body.
Prostate Massage Technique
The prostate massage technique can be performed either by the use of a finger or a prostate massager (a medical instrument). Sometimes, indirect prostate massage can be done through the perineum but it has not been found very effective towards removing the fluid.
While performing the prostate massage technique, care should be taken not to exert more pressure than when rubbing the eyeball since not only may more pressure be painful but may cause injury to the prostate. The normal method of performing the prostate massage technique is by using the index finger and a latex glove and massaging the lobes on either side of the prostate and avoiding the nerves in the middle.
In case the prostate is full, the prostate massage technique may stimulate it and cause it to empty itself without squeezing it with the finger, in the same manner as during ejaculation but without the surrounding organs being stimulated.
